Von Venn’s new single “Only In The Night” exemplifies why this Dublin indie band have been gaining momentum in the local music scene. Emerging on August 15th as a lead track from their upcoming album “Forgetting the Fall,” the song proves the group’s unique knack for combining memorable hooks with genuine emotional depth.
The track opens with a guitar riff that sets the stage for a rhythm section that creates an almost hypnotic groove. Also, Gary Cox (lead singer of the band) stands out with vocals that carry a dreamlike quality throughout the song. He is complemented by lush female harmonies that add layers of richness to the overall sound. The result is a chorus that lingers long after the song ends.
Lyrically, “Only In The Night” tackles the complicated emotions surrounding relationships that end not from conflict, but from incompatible life goals. Cox explains the song’s core concept: “Sometimes in life a relationship has to end because someone realizes their needs don’t match their partner’s needs. Someone has to make the difficult decision to leave. There’s no anger or big argument, just a sad understanding that it’s over and you both need to go separate ways.”
The song captures the bittersweet reality of making difficult but necessary choices. “It’s better to let go than to be half hearted about the future,” Cox continues. “But still, on some dark nights you find yourself wondering what might have been if you had found the courage to stay.”
