Von Venn Return With “Be Free”

Von Venn

I’ve had Von Venn’s “Be Free” stuck in my head for days now. This Dublin band just dropped their third single from “Forgetting the Fall” and honestly, it’s the best one yet.

I liked “You Can Talk To Me” and “Only In The Night” well enough, but this one hits different. There’s this rawness to it that feels necessary right now. We’re all drowning in bullshit, you know? Everyone’s got an agenda, everyone’s spinning the truth until you can’t tell what’s real anymore. And Gary Cox just comes right out and says it.

But here’s the thing. They could’ve made this angry and exhausting. Instead, they made something you actually want to listen to. It’s got this classic rock feel that reminds me of bands my older brother used to play, but it doesn’t sound old. The production keeps it fresh without sanding off all the edges.

Gary’s voice does exactly what it needs to do. When he sings “Somebody’s watching you, got to keep watching you, checking what you’ve got to say,” it feels like he’s genuinely fed up. Not lecturing, just tired of it all. Then the chorus kicks in and suddenly you’re nodding along: “We should be free, say what we want, put it out to hear, tell anyone.”

The whole song is frustrated, sure. There’s real anger in there about how much control we’ve handed over without even realizing it. But it never gets depressing. That’s the trick. It’s not just venting. It’s more like a wake up call that you don’t have to go along with everything you’re being fed.

I keep coming back to this one. Crank it up and let it snap you out of whatever fog you’re in.
