New York City, current home to Writer, Singer, Rapper, Engineer, Producer, Guitarist ‘SK’. She is NOT your typical urban artist. The music is eclectic and gives the middle finger to categorization. Before becoming a hip hop artist, SK played acoustic open mics 4 to 5 nights a week in Boston and was the lead guitarist in an old school funk/R&B band. She is originally from NJ, spent some time in Boston, and currently lives in the Bronx, NY. She currently works at Ruff Ryders Radio on Wednesdays and Fridays.
With roots influences at home like Aaron Neville, Dixie Chicks, Eric Clapton, and Tracy Chapman. In middle school a fan of the Game’s “Documentary,” 50’s “Get Rich or Die Tryin’,” Jay Z, and Snoop Dogg, led to something special In SK’s music.
Went to MIT, studied math, and was an All-American athlete. After several surgeries, SK switched focus from athletics to music. She started taking night classes in sound engineering and production. From there, she started recording and engineering her own music.
“A lot of my go-to hip hop music right now sits between 1995 and 2005—50 cent, Missy Elliott, DMX, the game, Biggie, Lloyd banks. I listen to some current artists: Casanova, Big KRIT, Dave East, J Cole, some of the radio tracks. “My musical influence stretches to almost every genre. That’s how I grew up. I had music with me everywhere I went. I wasn’t creating it until I was in college, but I had always been listening.” – SK
Newest single “Polo” can appeal to a wide audience. It’s hip hop, with commercial influence yet still retains unbelievable sincerity. In her music, she focuses on lyricism, songwriting, and versatility of flow. Written by SK and QIvory with Pulsar Entertainment “Polo” is fun track, with badass . wordplay, and some ridiculous lyrics. Stay tuned for what’s next!
