SXSW Announces World Premiere of Director Isaac Yowman’s Newest Film

February 22, 2022 – Every March, hand-picked creatives from all over the world are invited to feature their work at the acclaimed SXSW Film Festival, and “Memory Builds the Monument” from director and cinematographer Isaac Yowman is taking center stage this year powered by IMDb. As Isaac explains, “SXSW is so elite, to be an official selection plus world-premiering my film there is an honor. As a director it’s a platform you aspire to be apart of because it’s one of the most difficult festivals globally to get selected into… definitely top 3. To be back in Texas, sharing a film about Texas history, at the biggest entertainment gathering in Texas is special, very special.”

Nominated in the ‘Outstanding Short Form Special’ category at this year’s NAACP Image Awards, Yowman’s latest masterpiece “Memory Builds the Monument” is woven together by the vivid memories of the legendary Club Matinee as told by musicians and attendees during segregation. This film was a labor of love collaboration powered by non-profit organizations SOURCE Studios & Fifth Ward CRC which explores the music, the art, and the community of Houston’s historic 5th Ward. The project highights compelling cultural and social challenges of African-Americans from the 1940s – 1960s in the South. The music of these eras defined generations and brought people of all ethnicities and backgrounds together. Through touching narratives and visual storytelling, director Yowman is expressing how memories, at the verge of being lost, can shape how we build our future. The SXSW Film Festival is known for showcasing raw innovation and talent from behind and in front of the camera, and there’s no doubt Yowman is covering all the bases. Keep up with this creative on Instagram and find all SXSW screening details at the button above.
