Indie artist and filmmaker Myah has just released her latest single and music video, “The Lobby”, a cinematic break-up anthem perfect for the autumn season. The video cleverly parodies the films of her ex, turning Myah’s personal experiences into a broader commentary on fame, love, and the impact of Hollywood on relationships. With a mix of wit and emotional depth, Myah uses her storytelling talents to create a music video that stands out both visually and thematically.
The production quality of “The Lobby” is a testament to the hard work of a dedicated indie team. The parodies within the video are achieved through meticulous coloring, editing, and technical choices, such as shifting aspect ratios and lenses to match iconic film styles. This artistic and technical attention to detail elevates the storytelling, making the video not just a break-up anthem, but also a commentary on the film industry itself.
Myah shares her thoughts on the song and video: “‘The Lobby is a dual breakup anthem and commentary on Hollywood. There’s this idea that if you aren’t ‘famous’ or ‘known,’ you don’t have value and can’t make a splash, which really isn’t true. A bunch of indie filmmakers and musicians made this song and video come to life without a label or massive budget or any big names attached. I think that’s really important for people to see.”
Alongside the release of the single and video, Myah has also launched a limited-edition merch line. Fans can grab branded crewnecks, tote bags, t-shirts, sleep masks, socks, matchboxes, and gift boxes that tie into the theme of the video. As an interactive twist, fans can even call the working phone number featured in the video, connecting them to “the lobby,” where they can embark on a quest to find the ex-lobby boy and shop for merch.
Myah, whose real name is Mariah Morgenstern, is not only an indie artist but also the founder and CEO of New Royalty Films. She has directed and produced music videos for high-profile artists such as The Marías, Surf Curse, Steve Aoki, and Kehlani. As with her other works, “The Lobby” highlights Myah’s ability to merge her filmmaking talents with her music, creating a unique storytelling experience.
The song itself was written by Myah and produced, mixed, and mastered by Tripped N Sat. The video was directed, shot, and edited by Daniel Cho, with a talented team including producer Kelly Chen, colorist Enikő Edelsbrunner, production designer Bradley Dickinson, and more. With so much creative energy behind it, “The Lobby” is sure to resonate with anyone who’s ever experienced heartbreak or felt the pressure of fame.
