Tampa rapper JG releases a new tune called “Public Relations” today. The track’s melancholy sound finds The Leftovers artist delivering emotionally driven lyrics about breaking old relationship habits. The new song serves as the title track for his upcoming project Public Relations 2 releasing via his independent label The Leftovers.
“I’ve anticipated this for a long time now. My hopes for Public Relations 2 are very high, but most of all I just hope that each of you love it as much as I do,” explains JG. “Launching with this single I feel like it establishes the sound to expect from the album.”
“Public Relations” follows street singles “Weight Up” and “Spaceship” that were supported by Adam 22’s No Jumper platform.
Tampa, Florida born independent artist JG combines melodic tunes driven by emotional, introspective and relatable lyrics. His previous project 3 Feet From Gold featured his biggest hit “My Side.” The official music video to the song landed on Vevo’s “dscvr Hip-Hop” and “New Hip-Hop” playlists and gained over 300,000 plays. 3 Feet From Gold also featured the slapper “Birds In LA” featuring Rich The Kid that landed on tastemaker music blog Daily Chiefers.
JG’s early music reflected homelife. “I was going through a lot of stuff with my dad being in and out of prison and drugs, and I didn’t get along with my step dad. He was an alcoholic,” he reflects. Music was his therapy. The strong reaction to his YouTube covers of Drake’s “Headlines” and Kirko Bangz’s “Drank in My Cup” fueled his music pursuits. His first mixtape, “Public Relations,” a concept album about a breakup released on Valentine’s Day, received even better feedback.
“I’m relatable to the kids who are just regular kids who maybe don’t have everything that the kids down the street have,” explains the rapper inspired by the likes of J. Cole, Kanye West and Drake. “I don’t want to be perceived as, Oh, I’m a rapper. I got to wear big ass chains. I got to rock a grill. I want to be viewed as down-to-earth, humble. I could be humble, but I’m still a dope ass MC. I just want people to look and be like, ‘Damn if he could do this then I could too.”
JG’s new album Public Relations 2 will release this Fall via independent label The Leftovers and features Gusto Leimert, Cam Wallace, Young Joe, Eighty K and Wifisfuneral.
