No Serial Killer is a relatively new project by British songwriter A.K.M. There is not a massive amount of information about him online, but one thing I am sure of is that he can come up with a track that bites and grips with infectious charm.
When it comes to sticking to the norm, No Serial Killer is very contrarian. They hate doing what everyone else is, which is displayed here with ‘I Luv Myself’. As a result, the track comes in a pretty unique style with plenty of different sounds jabbing out of it as it progresses.
It has a 60/70s vibe. The piano and drum rhythm add a flair which we do not hear all too often in modern times. But, the vibe changes quickly, and before we know it, we are delving more into a psychedelic space. Vocally, it sticks out like a sore thumb, but for the right reasons, with Erika Schiff from American Idol gracing the airwaves.
But, although not as gritty as hoped given the rock and roll edge coming from the rest of the instruments, the singer puts on a top-class smooth performance delivering a narrative of hope and admiration for oneself. She sings with a style reminiscent of the most excellent pop star’s from yesterday, but one thing is for sure, she does not sound like another artist in this genre currently.
