The Lucky 13s take their sound to the next level on ‘Ain’t Got No Money’.
Jamie Johnson (The UK Voice Finalist 2014) reveals the contrast between ordinary people and those at the top in ‘Ain’t Got No Money,’ a single that gives an insight into his world. He articulates his position skillfully, delivering a message that many will find pertinent.
The song starts with a drum beat, a strong guitar lead and the horn section. Jamie soon follows sings with passion, and it’s difficult to criticise his strategy. He has a style reminiscent of the greats of blues and soul, but he also exudes fresh air.
There is a broad range of influences, but they bring a modern feel. Furthermore, while there are traces of tracks from the past, the English group proves that they are not a carbon copy by demonstrating their unrivalled excellence throughout. However, it would be fantastic to hear the music grow even more anthemic in the choruses. They sound noteworthy, but a bit extra grit musically could have elevated it even further.
Overall, The Lucky 13s have created a very well-executed track. Also, despite their popularity, they stay true to their roots, which is nice.
